From the bric-a-brac of the artist’s studio and its histories of creative processes to the spotlight of the public exhibition space, Paul Newman investigates the potential of both territories. As an installation in response to the Arena Gallery, ‘Stage’ transports elements from his studio and includes work looking backwards and forwards as characters and motifs from a 10 year period re-emerge.
Through an expansive practice of drawing, painting, performance and installation, Paul explores the idea of an internal landscape with occasional references to historical paintings sourced from artists’ postcards.
