Excited and a little apprehensive to take part in Peep @ Stryx Live online residency program in June. My week is June 22nd to 26th.

presents

Our third Peep@Stryx artist Paul Newman @paulhnewman.
This week he will be working on his residency entitled ‘Reframing the stage’. The recent lockdown scenario and working from home has created an opportunity to integrate his domestic setting into this narrative and the porting of props and elements from past work and studio space for experimental play at home. Expect monsters and Ford Escort vans and so much more! Artist talk tonight on IGTV 19:30!

The Last Day Revisited on Artsy

I’m delighted to be part of Artsy online exhibition of Aleph Contemporary artists. ‘The Last Day Revisited’
A cross generational group show featuring Willard Boepple, Helen Brough, Jacopo Dal Bello, Dan Coombs, Gordon Dalton, Nelson Diplexcito, Joana Galego, Peter Griffin, Phil King, Lee Johnson, Zebedee Jones, Rebecca Meanley, Paul Newman, Miroslav Pomichal, Katie Pratt, Mark Wright.
Aleph Contemporary is pleased to present its group show ‘The Last Day revisited’
‘In 2012 he (Newman) created a photographic print of his old studio, and during lockdown he has revisited it, painting eerie abstract elements on top of the pre-existing image. A bright and gaudy backdrop featuring psychedelic vases and clementines in crystal bowls has been shrouded in a murky veil twisting and turning with intestine-like tubes. If the original was, as Newman says, a fictional self-portrait, then this queasy update surely visualises him grappling with the strange and uncertain times in which we live.’ – Chloe Ashby

Mountain Size

I’m delighted to be taking part in painting exhibition Mountain Size with the Contemporary British Painting group, curated by Gordon Dalton and the team at the Pineapple Black gallery in Middleborough. Open 1-30th Nov and related talks during its duration as part of the Conversations in Painting festival. Van study xi is parking up there in the exhibition.

Mountain Size features artists whose work has a relationship to landscape, as well as to the history, legacy and traditions of painting itself. This does not mean it is divorced from the wider realities around it or a fruitful critical dialogue with other art forms, but that painting itself is mountain sized, a large, seemingly immovable force yet one that is changeable with time.

Featuring:
Karl Bielik | Paula MacArthur | Stephen Snoddy | Amanda Ansell | Judith Tucker | Alison Pilkington | D J Manley | Simon Carter | Narbi Price | Pen Dalton | Matthew Krishanu | Cara Nahaul | Sam Douglas | Joe Packer | Mandy Payne | Julian Brown | Sean Williams | Freya Purdue | Greg Rook | Jeff Dellow | Gordon Dalton | Andrew Crane | Barbara Pierson | Natalie Dowse | Paul Newman
