Artefact is very proud to present our first show of 2018: English Gothic. PV Fri 12th Jan 7.30 – 10 pm

English Gothic is a new series of paintings by Birmingham based artist Paul Newman. The works imaginatively combine motifs and reference points from 18th & 19th-century landscapes with 20th-century industry, architecture and Gothic horror. These references create a tableau, the figurative elements become props in a stage, a landscape in flux.

The imagery is heavily biographical drawing from various memories throughout Newman’s life. Newman’s fathers white Ford Escort van, the Salisbury wing in the national gallery, rural walks. The work may generate political and cultural themes around relics of heritage and urban/rural environment.

Doors open from 7.30pm until 10.30pm. English Gothic by Paul Newman will be on show until Saturday 3rd February. Child-friendly

Open Wednesday and Saturday 11am -5pm  Thursday and Friday 11am – 10pm * Closed at 6pm on the First Friday of the month for the taxi to Digbeth First Friday  1464 Pershore Rd, Stirchley, Birmingham B30 2NT We are wonderful mix of poetry, art, home-made cakes and coffee in Stirchley, Birmingham.

An exhilarating night of live performances; Real Fabrications at Stryx on Friday 6th Oct. Part of Fierce festival.

Featuring the compelling performances by Alex Billingham, Eothen Stearn & Arma Agharta

I’m delighted to have curated to show with Stryx.

In conjunction with Fierce Festival Stryx presents three performance artists based in Holland, Lithuania and United Kingdom who have cultivated their own unique rituals and idiosyncratic belief systems. Within the current climate of tribalism, separation, and borders, their aesthetic role play taps into universal contradictions of restriction and choice, collective and individual patterns of behaviour. Curated by Paul Newman
